You took a forty day journey into enchantment. But the real magic is that you never left home.
—
Congratulations! You took a ride on the wild side and found yourself in the land of enchantment. You risked adventure into the non-ordinary and by now you’ve seen the ample rewards of your courage — wonder, delight, awe, curiosity, play and joy.
And it all started because forty days ago, your attention was captured by a possibility that real magic existed. Not the abracadabra of rabbits from hats, but rather the deepest magic of your extraordinary ordinary life. Your soul was prodding you, poking at your ribs, to take a a chance that something as crazy as a Magic Challenge might be worth your time and effort.
I want share two quotes here from one of my favorite fiction writers, Charles de Lint: The first reminds us just how available the subtle magic of our human existence is, when we choose to engage it with our intention and attention.
“I do believe in an everyday sort of magic — the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we’re alone.”
This everyday magic is what you have been playing with. Look back on the ways your soul teased you with synchronicity, and loved you up with sweet nothings like the perfect parking spot, the repeating numbers, the phone call from someone you were just thinking of….and every now and then, your soul made crazy love to you with stunningly unlikely miracles and manifestations. Either way, you got to know your soul just that much better.
And this is at the heart of this Magic Challenge—that magic is not what you do but it is who you are. Your very soul has been courting you lifelong, wanting nothing more than to love you and be loved back. And for your soul, magic is a form of flowers, and chocolates, and candlelight dinners. Your soul wants to seduce you with synchronicity and delight you with wonder.
Which brings me to my other favourite Charles de Lint moment:
I want to be magic. I want to touch the heart of the world and make it smile. I want to be a friend of elves and live in a tree. Or under a hill. I want to marry a moonbeam and hear the stars sing. I don’t want to pretend at magic anymore. I want to be magic.
Do you know this to be true? That you are magic itself? Can you see and feel that this forty day journey was nothing more than a choice to remember who you really are? That the finish line is where you started?
Mini Optional Last Day Assignment.: Remember that fairytale exercise way back at the start of this journey? Read it again with the eyes of magic. is there anything you would add as emerging Mage? Or take away from the tale. This fairytale is a work of art in progress and it will change as your self-remembrance deepens. So go ahead and tinker with it if you feel the call.
Do you have a new magical tool? Has the villain changed or disappeared altogether? Are you still the same character! Did your princess become a fairy or your prince become a giant? You might be surprised at what changes in your archetypes of self as you immerse deeper and deeper into the magic of your being.
