Day 26: The thinking mind is not the creator of magic. It is simply the observer of it.

When you are playing with the magic of your being, the temptation is to get caught up in desires and wants, expectations and hopes. Because after all, so much cool stuff is happening—the mind-blowing synchronicity, the entangled meeting of minds, and the amazing hints of precognition and deja vu.

All of it is so wondrous that the mind grabs ahold of this unfoldment and wants to label itself the master of ceremonies. The mind wants to be in control simply because that’s its job description. It’s here to make sense of the world in a way that keeps harm at bay. The thinking mind is a great first mate, but it is NOT the ship’s captain.

When the mind tries to co-opt the magic of being it looks a lot like the film The Secret. The underlying premise of most manifestation teachings is that you are the master of your destiny because you are the creator of your reality. But what these teachings fail to address is the “you” that is the master—which you collapses wave functions into reality outcomes?

In his book, The Self Aware Universe, physicist Amit Goswami writes,

“Consciousness is the agency that collapses the wave of a quantum object, which exists in potentia, making it an immanent particle in the world of manifestation.”

Simply, the agent of manifestation is consciousness. Consciousness is fundamental—it is your true Self. It is the Oneness that sages speak about. There is one Self here, playing as many selves. The mind that perceives itself as finite, separate and sovereign is not fundamental, but simply one of the manifestations of consciousness/infinite self.

Or you could say it this way: The self you think you are is an object, not a subject.

When you truly get this, the world opens up to you as a playground instead of an obstacle course. This truth, when known, opens you to a life of enchantment because you are emptied of the illusion of the finite self and filled with the magic of your Infinite Self.

The whole purpose of taking this Forty Day Magic Challenge is to take a back stage door into awakening to your Infinite Self. When you engage with magic, you engage with your true nature. You become increasingly intimate with your True Nature.

Assignment: As you go about your day today (and over the next 14 days of this challenge) pay attention to how the magic that is happening around you is being observed by the mind. Can you identify this observation process and see that there is a Self that witnesses the observer of magic? Who is that self that witnesses the witness? Keep practicing this watcher watching the watcher. It will eventually lead you to a surprisingly simple and clear ah-ha that filled with magic.
